Background on the Conflict in Sudan:

For over 300 days, Sudan has been the collateral of relentless clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking the outbreak of conflict in April 2023. This prolonged violence has not only claimed countless lives, displaced millions, terrorized the Sudanese people, and demolished so much of the country's infrastructure, but now has also led to a complete outage of Sudan's telecommunications keeping the world in the dark.

The roots of Sudan's turmoil trace back to the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir, which initially sparked hopes for democratic progress. However, the rise of General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemeti, and his RSF has since derailed these aspirations. Hemeti's significant influence has effectively halted Sudan's transition to democracy, exacerbating the displacement and suffering of millions. The power struggle between the RSF and the Sudanese military within the transitional government underscores the urgent need for support from the international community.

As Sudan grapples with internal power dynamics, the humanitarian situation within the country continues to deteriorate rapidly. Ongoing fighting, coupled with shortages of food, water, and fuel, has left millions in dire need. The collapse of essential services, including healthcare, has further exacerbated the crisis, with severe shortages of medicines and vital supplies. In the face of these challenges, it is imperative for the international community to heed Sudan's cry for help and stand in solidarity with its people in their quest for peace, democracy, and humanitarian relief.
